A Week of Turning Ideas into Action
Sustainability Week was celebrated in full force campus-wide as students across all study levels explored creative ways to give everyday materials a second life.
Our students in Years 7 to 9 used their powerful imaginations to transforming used and unwanted materials into creative new creations. Their simple but meaningful upcycling project showcased how old materials can become something worth celebrating.
Meanwhile, lower secondary students gained fresh insights from Ms. Maslisa Zainuddin, senior lecturer from Sunway University’s Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences who is also a big upcycling enthusiast and artist by night. In addition to the importance of upcycling, she shared her two cents on how small changes in the way we view and use materials can make a difference while showing the students her personal upcycled craft.
Elementary students were in for a treat during the Swaptastic activity, where garments in good condition found new owners while giving students the opportunity to refresh their wardrobes and practise responsible “spring cleaning”.
Middle school students – and mummies and daddies – had their hands full all week creating a hat using recycled materials that were proudly worn during the regular Friday assembly. No doubt our students thought outside of the box while having maximum fun as seen from the many colourful, creative and wonderfully unexpected hats in the crowd.
Through talks, projects and innovative challenges, Sustainability Week reminded students that caring for the planet can start with something as simple as looking at what we already have, then imagining what it could become.
