Curriculum

Here at Sunway International School, students have a variety of pathways to choose from. The basis of our offerings from Kindergarten to Grade 11 is centred around the Ontario (Canada) Provincial Curriculum, and earning their Ontario Secondary Schools Diploma (OSSD) in conjunction with Sunway’s Canadian International Matriculation Program (CIMP). At various points along the way, students may elect to shift their focus to our recently added Cambridge International Programme, or look to complete their International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP). Students will be well-served with any option, as they will be challenged to develop socially, think critically, engage academically, and prepare for success in next steps at post-secondary institutions around the globe by working through the internationally recognised curricula that are on offer.

Canadian Curriculum

Canada’s school curriculum is consistently ranked amongst the world’s Top 10 in the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development or OECD’s Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) which measures students’ achievements in literacy (reading, languages), numeracy (mathematics), and inquiry (sciences).

The PISA also ranks Canada’s school curriculum above other English-speaking countries like the UK, US, and Australia, to name a few. This has been since the first PISA in 2003 and can still be seen in more recent PISA rankings in 2012, 2015, and 2018.

Several factors contribute to the success of the Canadian system of education and they include its focus on developing students as a ‘whole person’ and equipping them with strong ‘learning skills’ and positive ‘work habits’.

Developing character, citizenship, collaboration, communication, creativity, and critical thinking as the foundation blocks for students to be lifelong learners and responsible members of society.

Students learn skills and nurture positive habits which facilitate their learning and help them take responsibility for their own learning which hone abilities for future success.

Teaching is about students’ learning and understanding, and continuous assessments offer feedback on students’ achievement of learning outcomes and curriculum expectations.

SIS teachers are Canadian and/or IB-trained. Many Canadian teachers at SIS also have Ontario College of Teachers (OCT) credentials which hold them to high levels of teaching standards.

Sunway Cambridge International Programme

Cambridge school curriculum is the world's most popular international qualification. It gives students various pathways and options as it offers more subjects to choose from, more ways to learn and more ways to succeed.

It offers a variety of routes for learners with a wide range of abilities including those whose first language is not English. For learners, Cambridge helps improve a student's performance by developing the necessary skills in creative thinking, enquiry and problem solving.

Research, self-management, thinking, social and communication skills strategically embedded into our lessons in and out of the classroom. Our students learn to lead themselves and others.

Learning opportunities to inculcate performance and moral character daily intensified through service learning.

Curriculum that covers breadth and depth. Examinations are designed to assess what students have learned. They are exposed to problem-based projects that put their knowledge and skills to practice.

Sunway A-level programme's astounding academic results and high success rate in graduate placements to the University of Oxford and Cambridge every year.

International Baccalaureate

The IB programmes are part of a truly international curriculum that is not affiliated with the national education system of any country. It hones students’ functional proficiency in more than one language along with knowledge and skills across a range of subjects that would enable them to learn, think, evaluate, and solve problems in multi-disciplinary ways.

As IB World Schools, both SIS campuses prioritise the embodying of IB Learner Profile qualities so that students become responsible members and significant contributors to their school and community.

The IB focuses on students becoming internationally-minded individuals who respect differences and the opinion of others, use inter-disciplinary knowledge and skills, learn independently and in collaboration with others, and approach decision making in critical and informed ways.

Curriculum balances development in languages, mathematics, sciences, social sciences, and arts, and engages multifaceted learning strategies to maximise students' potential.

Co-curricular & Extra-curricular Programmes

Starting with our Extra-Curricular Fair early each semester, students will have the chance to select from a variety of activities across the arts, academics, and athletics. Sunway International School competes across several of Malaysia’s local and international sporting associations and sends students to Model United Nations (MUN), robotics, and a variety of other academic competitions in the area. By encouraging students to explore their interests and participate in their passions through clubs and teams, our school looks to foster growth, teamwork, confidence, collaboration, and community.
