SIS PTPI Charity Trivia Contest
As we gear up for more activities coming up this semester, let's take a look at one of the events PTPI hosted back in April. Check out the article written by Wayne, PTPI Club's Publicity Officer on the Charity Trivia Contest.
“In order to cope with students’ current circumstances caused by the COVID-19 Pandemic, the People to People International (PTPI) Club took the opportunity to host an online trivia contest on 23 April. The original intent was to fundraise for the Lost Food Project (TLFP) - a Malaysia-based non-profit organization that emphasizes reducing food waste by providing the underprivileged with food obtained from groceries surplus. Incidentally, this event bonded the community together once again succeeding the repercussions of online learning and social distancing.
The event was designed to circumvent social restrictions imposed to combat COVID-19, with the thought of students’ and teachers’ situations in mind, we as a club figured it was crucial to develop an event that is both easily accessible and engaging for all participants. The idea of an online trivia contest was first proposed around this time, which kick-started our project. The process of developing a project from scratch wasn’t as complicated as some feared; however it was time-consuming, especially with our limited means of communication - it took every club members’ exceptional organizational skill to finalize this project.
With the backbone of the project in place 3 weeks prior to the event, promoting and advertising soon followed. The promoting process soon proved to become quite challenging, posters and morning announcements just weren’t sufficient advertising for our desired amount of participants. As a result, we relied on social media and personal connections for the project to achieve the exposure it desperately needed. Nonetheless, our project emerged successful as our vice president, Harris, and treasurer, Indesh, did an excellent job at hosting the trivia contest, thus concluding PTPI’s project for the semester.
Such a favourable outcome was only feasible with the involvement of all PTPI’s club members teamwork and dedication, as everyone overcame hardships, contributed viewpoints and learned many other valuable skills even amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. Through the donations received in this project, we successfully helped vulnerable persons and reduced food waste by contributing to keeping the Lost Food Project running, despite the challenging times we are all facing.”
