SIS Scholarship Award 2021 Virtual Ceremony

Virtual Scholarship Award 2021

Sunway City, 4 August - Despite the rising number of daily cases, the situation with the pandemic could not dampen the spirits of the Sunway International School (SIS) Sunway City community during the SIS Scholarship Award 2021 Virtual Ceremony.

The ceremony celebrated the achievements of the 73 scholars at SIS Sunway City. The humble event held on Wednesday afternoon saw the attendance of the scholars, their families, teachers and administrators.

As a member of the Jeffrey Cheah Foundation and in keeping with the spirit of giving back to society through education, SIS believes in rewarding students' academic accomplishments and extra-curricular excellence. SIS offers four different types of scholarships namely Academic, Sports, Music, and the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP).

These scholarships were first offered in 2011, with Genevieve Ling being the first SIS scholar to receive the Sports scholarship. Since then, she is now a professional Malaysian Golfer. The scholarships encourage students to continue pursuing their passions; be it in sport, music and dance, or striving for greater heights in academic standard.

In her speech to open the ceremony, Dr Cheng Mien Wee, the Executive Director of Sunway International Schools, said to the scholars “We believe your stories will encourage and inspire others and that is the foundation of the Jeffrey Cheah Foundation’s mission in giving scholarships to support you, encourage you to pursue what you’re good at to points of excellence, and sharing that to encourage others."

To date, SIS has awarded scholarships to close to 200 deserving scholars, and the Jeffrey Cheah Foundation has given out over RM538 million in scholarships.
